Word-of-mouth (from The Ex, really) claims that I die-die must try the ramen. Nestled within Parco departmental store at Millenia Walk, on the top floor, there are a few Japanese restaurants. Zoom in on the one with the most newspapers and magazine cuttings outside: “TV Tokyo’s Ramen King” winner.
The gaudy outside contrasts much with the elegant interior of dim lights and predominantly gray color. Quite romantic, actually.
When we received this piece of paper, we instantly realized this restaurant is affiliated with one of our favorite ramen palces, Tonkotsu King Keisuke at Orchid Hotel. The main difference is that Tonkotsu King Keisuke serves only pork-based soup while Keisuke has crab-stock ramen (with eggs, $15.80).
The crab stock ramen, served with a slice of char siew, is no holds barred, full-fledged assault of your senses. So extravagant, so fragrant, so rich, so sweet, so thick, more like a broth than a stock. The egg is gorgeous, molten-yolked.
How do we judge ramen? We judge by whether it scalds our tongues because we are so greedy we want to slurp so fast as we can. And this one did.
Service: immaculate, attentive, and friendly.
After reading a few negative reviews of the place, the reviews mostly complain that the soup is too full bodied, too flavorful. In defense of Keisuke Tokyo, we say, if you want light soup, go eat pho, fish porridge, yong tou fu or even udon, or soba. Really? You want to eat ramen and then complain it’s too heavy? Doesn’t the fatty pork belly (that usually accompanies ramen) already suggest that ramen won’t be recommended in “The Biggest Loser” diet? Complaining ramen’s robustness is like choosing to take a literature course when you don’t like to read. How crazy is that?
